Phase 1: Support your thesis in a Google Doc
See how the Google Doc part of the Final Project is marked
The final project recalls all you have learned in this course this semester
It should be minimum 300 words and counts 50% of your Final Mark
Goals for the class
Determine your topic
Review some possible thesis statements
Write your own thesis statement
Write out three sentences giving three reasons why you think the thesis is true.
Find 3 web sites that you think will give you information to support your thesis
What you produce during this class
Create a Google Doc and write out your
topic
thesis
3 reasons
3 web addresses
Title the Google Doc: Your name & ID, Class, Final Project
I have almost 90 students. I need for you to put your NAME and CLASS on all your work.
Share the Google Doc with vancestev@gmail.com
Research your topic
In your shared Google Doc
It may be that one or more websites you found the day before don’t really have information to support your topic. In that case, you’ll have to replace them.
Use a minimum of three websites. Four or more is better (higher mark)
In this class you must write one paragraph for each reason explaining exactly what you found in those websites that help you develop your thesis.
Be sure you write this in your own words. Do NOT simply copy and paste from web sites. You need to show what YOU understand, and how your relate the facts you find to your thesis. |
At the end of this class period, your Google Doc should have
a title for your report
a thesis statement
3 paragraphs explaining three GOOD websites that will support your thesis.
Each paragraph begins with a reason you think the thesis is true.
A paragraph explaining what you have done and how you will complete your project <-- You don't have to do this
Write your report in your Google Doc. You should have 5 paragraphs, minimum 300 words.
Paragraph
For day three of the project, you expand your work in Google Docs to 5 paragraphs, and also make your other three paragraphs longer. To do that, use information from the websites you have found (at least one website for each reason).
If you use words directly from the website, put quote marks around them and indicate in parentheses where you got those words exactly, like this: “Put words you copy from websites in quote marks like this.” (in parentheses, write from http:// etc.)
